Any more people will reference the prophetic utterance, “these are the last days.” Every new horror we inflict upon one another, every natural tragedy experienced we say with expected doom, “well, these are the last days!” Let the struggle become to persistent, to routine, we say with a note of whimsical hope, “thank GOD these are the last days!” Don’t you think that’s our sneaky way of advocating worldwide destruction, “just get me the heck out of here first!”
But you know no matter how much we long to exit this place, we don’t know what time or day that will occur. That’s a good thing for someone like me. Once the signs became too obvious, I would just stop living and stay home waiting.
I believe I am learning a new appreciation for the prophetic word regarding the demise of planet earth. I, like many, wish it would end sooner than later. Our flavor of insanity can push the human soul far beyond tears. But there is rising within me a hope concerning the heart of the Creator and His creation.
2 Peter 3:8-10 King James Version (KJV)
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
So, I am glad, glad, happy crazy glad and thankful that GOD has a plan. That GOD knows many of us are not ready. Thank goodness His mercy endures forever.
I think Stevie Wonder said it very succinctly.
“They say that heaven is 10 zillion light years away
And just the pure at heart will walk her righteous streets someday
They say that heaven is 10 zillion light years away
But if there is a God, we need Him now
“Where is your God”
That’s what my friends ask me
And I say it’s taken Him so long
‘Cause we’ve got so far to come…” (Fulfillingness First Finale, 1974)
I am thankful for the cross. I am thankful for GOD’s love. More importantly, I am so thankful for Mercy!
