Playing with purpose

Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

Thanksgivng for Shoulder Rumble Strips

Shoulder rumble strips are used primarily to reduce run-off-road collisions. They alert distracted or drowsy drivers that they are leaving the roadway or crossing the centerline of the road. (Wood, Neal E., Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, January 1994)

Yep, that’s right! I’m pausing to thank GOD for the rumble strips. Yesterday, I made a grocery run. At a designated point, construction signs appeared; demanding a reduction in speed with a promise of severe penalty. Soon there was a red cone push to the right of the highway, until we were driving on the shoulder of the road.

That makes sense, right? Except now, many highway shoulders come equipped with humming. Its high pitch and mildly irritating. But, you are intimidated by the alternative, so you just soldier on. One side of the car on the highway, the other side singing on the shoulder; and whatever you do, don’t look to your right and see the land falling away!

Now I know those hums were meant to serve as an alert to dangerous road driving; and it reminded me of all the ways the hand of GOD hovers over my life. You know, that way GOD just butts into your path, and your plans. Its irritating, it’s a nuisance. And, why or why does this keep happening to me! I’m just trying to be the best me I can be! Why is GOD picking on me?

But, in my heart and with gratitude, I offer my thanksgiving for the ‘rumble strips’ in my life. I am thankful for the humming alerts. The ‘uh unns’ that check my feet in mid-air; and keep me from harming myself. Loud and intrusive warnings to adjust my speed or positioning. Just another facet of His love for me. Thanks Lord, that’s something I truly need!
